When I first encountered this competition’s brief—exploring natural light within a hypothetical setting—I knew it was the perfect opportunity to manifest a core passion: light as the primary design driver.
Through a sensitive revival of what moves us in the act of designing, and the emotional memories of the Brazilian coast, we created a project inspired by the shores of São Paulo. The residence was conceived to dialogue with its surroundings and the landscape's inherent potential. Through form, materiality, and natural elements, the spaces offer a sensory experience defined by both intimacy and expansion. Here, the perception of time is revealed through the trails of light that traverse the house, creating distinct atmospheres across the day and seasons.
Amidst the dense local greenery, we brought a dance of light and shadow indoors. The soft dawn light, filtered through foliage and semi-transparent 'brise-soleil', slowly enters the rooms to create a serene sanctuary. Later, the more intense afternoon sun is naturally tempered by the vegetation, fulfilling a functional role by protecting the living areas from the summer heat. The presence of water enriches this experience, reflecting moving light onto the walls, while precisely framed views ensure a profound sense of connection and belonging.
It was a privilege to immerse myself in these reflections and the spatial compositions made possible by natural light
